How can I stand out from other applicants?

Volunteer Work!!! Seriously, once they see you spent time raising money for dying, helpless children, giving old people in the nursing home a shoulder to cry on, expressing your new and innovative ideas to the city council meetings, and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, all in between the time it took to tutor special ed students, they will be hooked :)
