Good color to paint a hallway?

I have been debating this for quite some time, now. What color to paint my hallway. Right now, it's a dark blue color and it's pretty dark, I feel. We only have one hanging chandelier to light it and it's an L shape hallway. Our bathroom is a lighter shade of blue and we are planning on painting our bedroom red. we have 2 other bedrooms that are a blue color and a greenish blue. We are wanting to re-do some stuff in our house. This is a hallway that goes up stairs and going up the stairs at night seems quite dark. What is a good, light color to paint a hallway? I was thinking a light blue/gray but I'm not sure. The blue just seems so dark. It was this way when we moved in and I would like something other then white. Anyone have any advice?
