How can anyone hope to claim that republicans dont only represent the wealthy?

The Republicans don't even pretend to represent any interests other than those of the wealthy, yet they have managed to convince many people of modest means that they should support the Republican Party. Apparently the emphasis on emotionally-charged wedge issues works, as well as the campaign of misdirected venom against the very poor. Propaganda, slogans, stock phrases based on narrow ideological thinking work on segments of the population but, as we have seen, when Americans start to suffer directly in their wallets, they reject all of that.
